As skin care therapists, we often say that the décolletage tells the true story of ageing.

Many people invest time and care into their facial treatments and skincare routines, but unintentionally stop at the jawline or neckline. Over time, this creates a visible contrast between well-cared-for skin and skin that has been neglected.

The décolletage – the delicate area across the chest and upper neck – is frequently exposed to the sun, especially in open-neck clothing. Years of cumulative UV exposure can lead to pigmentation, sunspots, redness, crepey texture and accelerated collagen loss. While the face may appear refreshed and rejuvenated, the chest can quietly reveal signs of ageing that the face no longer shows.

Importantly, even surgical procedures such as a facelift do not improve skin texture, skin quality or sun damage. A facelift repositions and lifts tissue, but it does not treat pigmentation, fine lines, rough texture or the visible effects of chronic sun exposure – and it does not address the décolletage at all.

The skin on the décolletage is thinner and often more fragile than facial skin, making it particularly vulnerable to environmental damage. Yet it remains one of the most commonly overlooked areas in skincare and aesthetic treatments.

At MASC Laser Clinic, we believe beautiful skin should flow seamlessly from the face to the chest. True rejuvenation of the décolletage requires a considered, in-depth approach using potent yet gentle medical aesthetic skincare and advanced skin rejuvenation treatments.

Carefully selected laser therapies and collagen-stimulating treatments can dramatically improve pigmentation, texture and overall skin quality while still respecting the delicacy of the area.

When treating ageing skin, the goal is harmony – because the décolletage always gives the game away.

With love and gratitude,

Sheldene’s thoughts

Ageing is subtle. It doesn’t arrive all at once — it reveals itself in small, familiar ways. People start asking if you’re tired. You catch new hints of your genetic heritage in the mirror. Gradually, you begin to recognise the same patterns of ageing you’ve seen in older
members of your family. (mom’s eye bags or dad’s nasal labial folds)

The Line That Used to Go Away

That fine line you only saw when you were tired? If it’s starting to stick around, it’s often an early sign that collagen production is slowing down. This is usually when home-based skincare alone stops delivering the results it once did. Consider MASC signature facial, fractional laser and medical needling

Crow’s Feet Around the Eyes

The delicate eye area is often the first to show change. Lines that began as smile lines can slowly become visible even when your face is relaxed. This is where neuromodulating injections work best. Consider Plexr treatments or a variety of options at MASC that focus on the peri-ocular area.

Loss of Glow and Dullness

If your skin looks tired, sallow, or lacks its usual radiance, slower cell turnover may be to blame. This is one of the earliest (and most rewarding) signs of ageing to treat. MASC has a variety of peels and combination treatments including PRP to help resolve these issues.

When Your Usual Routine Stops Working

If your trusted products and treatments no longer make a noticeable difference, it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It simply means your skin’s needs have evolved. A Visia skin analysis with one of our MASC laser therapists will help identify your problem areas and they will create a bespoke treatment regime and homecare program suited to your specific needs.

When Is the Right Time to Act?

The best time is when you first notice these changes. Early, targeted treatments can support collagen, improve texture, and help maintain healthy, youthful-looking skin.

If you’re noticing subtle changes and wondering what your skin needs now, a personalised consultation at MASC Laser Clinic can help you take the next step with confidence.

With love and gratitude,

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular treatments we offer at MASC Laser Clinic, and with good reason – it’s effective, time-saving, and can significantly reduce unwanted hair. That said, it’s completely normal to have questions before starting your journey.

Below, I answer the most common questions we hear from clients, with specific insight into our NEW Nordlys laser platform, so you can feel informed and confident in your decision.

1. How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal works by delivering controlled light energy into the hair follicle. The pigment (melanin) in the hair absorbs the energy, which heats and disables the follicle’s ability to produce new hair—without damaging the surrounding skin.

At MASC, we use the Nordlys system, which offers precise energy delivery with advanced cooling technology for improved comfort and safety.

2. What makes the Nordlys platform different?

Nordlys is a medical-grade, multi-application laser system known for its:

High precision and consistent results

Advanced skin-cooling for comfort

Ability to treat a range of skin types safely

Reduced risk of burns or pigment changes when used correctly

This technology allows us to customise treatments based on your skin tone, hair colour, and treatment area, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

3. Is laser hair removal painful?

Most clients describe the sensation as a mild snap or warmth – similar to a rubber band lightly flicking the skin. With Nordlys’ integrated cooling and our careful treatment protocols, discomfort is usually minimal and very well tolerated.

Sensitive areas may feel slightly more intense, but sessions are quick, and we always work within your comfort level.

4. How many sessions will I need?

Hair grows in cycles, and laser treatment is only effective during the active growth phase. For this reason, multiple sessions are required.

On average:

6–8 sessions are needed

Treatments are spaced 4–6 weeks apart (depending on the area)

Hormones, genetics, and the treatment area can all influence results, which we will discuss during your consultation.

5. Does laser hair removal work on all hair and skin types?

Laser hair removal works best on darker hair, as the laser targets pigment. Very light blonde, red, grey, or white hair may not respond well.

With the Nordlys platform and correct settings, we can safely treat many skin tones—but a professional consultation is essential to determine suitability and minimise risks.

6. Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction, not guaranteed permanent removal. Most clients experience:

Finer, lighter regrowth

Slower hair growth

Significantly reduced maintenance

Occasional maintenance sessions may be needed, especially for hormonally influenced areas like the face.

7. What should I do before my appointment?

To ensure the best results:

Shave the area 24 hours before treatment

Avoid waxing, plucking, or threading for at least 4 weeks

Avoid sun exposure and self-tanning products

Inform your therapist of any medications or skin changes

We’ll go through all preparation steps with you in detail when you call for your first appointment.

8. Are there any side effects?

Temporary redness or warmth is normal and usually resolves within a few hours. With professional treatment and correct aftercare, side effects are minimal.

At MASC Laser Clinic, your safety is our priority, and treatments are always performed by trained professionals using medical-grade technology.

9. Can laser hair removal be done year-round?

Yes—with proper sun avoidance and SPF use. However, we may recommend delaying treatment if the skin is recently tanned, as this increases the risk of pigmentation changes.

10. Is laser hair removal worth it?

For many clients, absolutely. Laser hair removal can:

Save time and money long-term

Reduce ingrown hairs and irritation

Improve skin texture and confidence

When done correctly, using advanced technology like Nordlys, it’s one of the most rewarding aesthetic treatments available.

Final Thoughts

Laser hair removal is an investment in comfort, confidence, and convenience – but the key to success lies in expert assessment, advanced technology, and proper aftercare.

If you’re considering laser hair removal or have questions specific to your skin and hair type, we’d love to guide you.

Book a consultation at MASC Laser Clinic and let’s create a treatment plan tailored just for you.

What age should you start your children using skincare?

There is no single “correct” age to start children on skincare; it should be needs-based, minimal, and age-appropriate. In practice, skincare for children is about skin health and protection, not a cosmetic routine. A good broad spectrum sunscreen is vital as prevention is better than cure. Most of our sun damage is done in childhood, so teaching the younger generation good sun habits should be recommended as soon as they are exposed to the sun. Below is a recommended focus on skincare for children:

Infancy (0–2 years)
Skincare goal: Protect and maintain the skin barrier. Environ recommends the introduction of their mild Vitamin A moisturiser (Debut) from as early as 6 months and this can be continued throughout their childhood.

Early childhood (3–7 years)
Skincare goal: Hygiene and sun protection.

Pre-teens (8–11 years)
Skincare goal: Prevention and routine building. This is a good age to teach consistency and restraint, not complexity. Always apply sun protection.

Early teens (12–14 years)
Skincare goal: Manage puberty-related skin changes and consistent sun-protection

Mid-to-late teens (15+)
More active ingredients may be introduced if there is a clear need, preferably with professional guidance. Sun-protection is vital.

Key principles for parents

Less is more. Overuse of products may damage young skin.

Adult skincare ≠ child skincare.

Sunscreen is the most important product at any age.

Social media trends should not drive skincare choices.

If a child has persistent acne, eczema, or sensitivity, consult a healthcare professional rather than escalating products.

What should teens be doing for their skins?

For teenagers, the objective of skincare is maintenance and prevention, not transformation. Puberty-related hormonal changes increase oil production and breakouts, but teenage skin is otherwise healthy and resilient. A simple, consistent routine is both sufficient and preferable. An introduction to a gentle cleansing routine, a mild moisturiser and a broad-spectrum sunscreen, appropriate to their skin type/condition can be started. The earlier they learn to have a consistent skin routine, the easier it will be to treat any concerns that may arise. Our therapists at Masc can guide you on the best options for your teens skin and can guide them through this. A regular Cleanse and Extract treatment to gently clean their skins can also be introduced.

Is make-up bad for the skin?

Makeup is unlikely to harm the skin if the following are true:

Products are non-comedogenic and suitable for the skin type

Makeup is removed completely every night

Brushes and sponges are cleaned regularly

Skin care is the most important ‘foundation’ to prepare the skin prior to applying make up

Used this way, makeup does not damage healthy skin

At what age can you start using vitamin A containing products?

Vitamin A (retinoids) are generally introduced when signs of ageing start to appear, although depending on the type of retinoid, they may be introduced at an earlier age. This incredible ingredient can assist normalising the skin, reversing damage, refining skin texture and preventing and treating signs of ageing.

Retinoids are a vital ingredient in the treatment of acne skins and in low doses and in a mild form (Retinyl), can be used in early childhood to normalise and strengthen the skin (Environ Debut moisuriser). More potent forms are recommended to be started in the evening a 2-3 times a week and always introduced slowly – the theory is: Go low, Go slow.

Talk to our therapists about which product is best for your skin concerns and how to introduce the product. A few options are: Lamelle RA 3.0 serum, Neostrata Skin Active Potent Retinol Complex, Endocare Comfort Cream, Mesoestetic Skinretin, Environ Retinol Serum and Original Range.

With love and gratitude,

When we think about aging, most of us focus on the face—fine lines, loss of volume, and sunspots. But there’s one area that often gives away our age, even when our face is glowing and smooth: our hands.

Why the Hands Age Faster Than You Think

Our hands are constantly exposed to the elements—sun, water, harsh soaps—and they’re often overlooked in our skincare routines. Over time, this exposure leads to a loss of volume, thinning skin, and visible veins and tendons. Add in age spots and wrinkles, and your hands may start to appear older than you’d like.

Enter: Hand Rejuvenation with Fillers

Dermal fillers aren’t just for the face anymore, advanced hand rejuvenation treatments using hyaluronic acid-based fillers are excellent for restoring volume to the back of the hands.

What Fillers Do for Your Hands:

Restore volume: Plump up thinning skin for a smoother, more youthful look.

Camouflage veins and tendons: By adding volume, fillers reduce the appearance of bulging veins and sinewy tendons.

Improve skin texture: Some fillers stimulate collagen production, improving skin quality over time.

The Treatment: Quick, Safe, and Effective

Hand filler treatments typically take about 30 minutes and must be performed by a doctor. After cleansing the area, your specialist will inject small amounts of filler under the skin. Most patients experience minimal discomfort and can return to normal activities the same day. Results are visible immediately and can last from 6 to 18 months, depending on the type of filler used. If you like the effect achieved with “temporary” fillers, consider having the area treated with your own harvested fat for a more permanent result.

Re-plumping the hands will only get you part of the way when it comes to a rejuvenated appearance. The filler will not improve the texture or quality of the skin.

For greater effect, pair it with other hand rejuvenation treatments like:

Laser therapy to target sunspots and pigmentation.

Microneedling or PRP for improved skin texture.

Medical-grade peels to exfoliate and brighten the skin.

All the above-mentioned treatments are available at MASC Laser Clinic.

Is Hand Rejuvenation Right for You?

If you’ve noticed your hands aging faster than the rest of you, and you’re looking for a solution with natural-looking results, dermal fillers or fat filling may be the perfect choice.

Let your hands reflect the same youthful energy as your face. Book a consultation at MASC Laser Clinic today and rediscover the beauty of your hands.

Choosing between a breast lift (mastopexy) and breast augmentation depends on your
aesthetic goals and current breast shape. Here’s how I help my patients decide:

At consultation I recommend a Breast Lift if:

Your primary concern is sagging (ptosis)—your breasts have lost their shape and
firmness.
Your nipples point downward or sit below the breast crease.
You have stretched or enlarged areolas (nipples).
You are happy with your breast size, but want a more youthful, perky look.
You have loose skin due to weight loss, aging, or pregnancy.

A breast lift reshapes and raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening
the tissue, but it does not add volume. You will have to accept scars under the breasts
and around the areolas (much like breast reduction scarring).

At consultation I recommend a Breast Augmentation if:

Your main goal is to increase breast size and enhance fullness.
You want more cleavage or enhanced shape.
Your breasts are naturally small or have lost volume after pregnancy/weight loss.
You have mild sagging, but your nipples are still above the breast crease.

Breast augmentation adds size and fullness but does not significantly correct
sagging. Incisions are placed in the breast crease and scars are inconspicuous.

At consultation I recommend combining Both if:

You have sagging and also want larger breasts, you may need both a breast lift and augmentation. This is common after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging when breasts lose both volume and firmness. It is essential to remove excess skin and sagging when placing an implant in these circumstances to avoid the “double bump” situation. This is where the saggy breast tissue hangs off the implant that sits higher up on the chest. It’s not a good look and should be avoided at all costs. Your surgeon will advise you if a breast lift is unavoidable when considering an augmentation. The scarring will be the same as for a breast lift alone i.e below the breasts in the crease and around the areolas.
